Last year, Oshoala became the first African to be nominated for the Women’s Ballon d’Or.

The talented striker won the Champions League with Barcelona and was also part of the Nigerian contingent that were knocked out in the round of 16 at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Oshoala, 28, was a key part of her team’s Primera Division title win last campaign. She also helped the Spanish club clinch the Supercopa de Espana Femenina to complete an unprecedented treble.

In total, she scored 21 league goals in 28 matches last campaign.

World Cup winner and best player Aitana Bonmati together with tournament Golden Boot winner Hinata Miyazawa made the list. However, South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana was omitted from the nominees’ shortlist.

Colombian super star Linda Caicedo is also included in the shortlist for the 2023 Women’s Ballon d’Or alongside Oshoala.
