Oshodi becomes first African on World Table Tennis board

Wahid Oshodi has been appointed to the board of World Table Tennis, the commercial arm of the International Table Tennis Federation. He is the first African to hold such a position in the organisation’s history.

The Nigerian administrator’s appointment is a milestone for African representation in the global governance of table tennis.

Oshodi has served as Vice President of the International Table Tennis Federation since 2021, making him the first African to hold that role as well. He has been a model in the sport’s administration for years. Previously, he led the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation.

His elevation to the WTT board places him at the heart of the sport’s commercial strategy. This strategy oversees the professional tour, marketing, broadcast rights, and global event management.

Oshodi’s appointment has been widely celebrated across African table tennis circles. His presence on the board ensures the continent has direct input into decisions that determine the sport’s commercial future.

Oshodi follows in the footsteps of other pioneering Nigerian sports administrators who have broken continental barriers, including athletics’ Amaju Pinnick and table tennis’ own Engr. Suleiman Yahaya. Yahaya previously served on ITTF committees.

His appointment comes as table tennis seeks to expand its global footprint. Africa has been identified as a key growth market for participation and viewership.
