Osimhen misses out as Ekong, Aina, Lookman make AFCON 2023 team of the tournament

The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has announced the team of the tournament for the just concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with three Super Eagles players included, NRTC reports.

Host nation Ivory Coast were crowned champions after the Elephants came from behind to beat Nigeria 2-1 in Sunday’s final.

It was a great tournament that saw Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong claim the Man of the Tournament award.

Super Eagles trio Ekong, Ola Aina, and Ademola Lookman were named among the tournament’s best XI players.

South Africa captain Ronwen Williams was named the tournament’s best goalkeeper.
Champions Ivory Coast parade Franck Kessié, Jean Michael Seri and Ghislan Konan in the list.

South Africa, who recorded their best achievement in 24 years after a third place finish, also have Teboho Mokoena in the team.

Also, tournament top scorer Equatorial Guinea’s Emilio Nsue is among the eleven players selected in the team. He won the Golden Boot after netting five goals.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is represented with duo Chancel Mbemba and Yoane Wissa in the team.

Meanwhile, reigning Africa Player of the Year Victor Osimhen misses out alongside Mamelodi Sundowns player Khuliso Mudau.

Deservedly, Ivory Coast manager Emerse Fae is the coach of the tournament.
