The decision of Chijioke Ihunwo, Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) in Rivers State, to appoint 130 Special Assistants (SAs) has sparked widespread criticism among Nigerians.
The announcement, made on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, included a detailed list of appointees such as Sylverline Oluchi, Forune Ihuoma Isi, Wosu Elizabeth Obinuchi, Wagwu Amaoge Hilda, and Goodness Ogbonda.
Ihunwo, while urging the appointees to prioritize the interests of the LGA, may not have anticipated the backlash that followed. Nigerians, particularly users of X, quickly expressed their disapproval, questioning the rationale behind appointing such a large number of aides.

The disparity between the number of appointments and the size of the LGA was not lost on critics. One user, @Onsogbu, highlighted the mismatch, stating, “Obio/Akpor LGA in Rivers State has 17 wards, yet the chairman employs 130 personal assistants. Na wa o.”
Other reactions were similarly laced with humor and disbelief. For instance, @Ohams4NewNaija sarcastically remarked, “Only you? 130 Special Assistants. Do you also need pampers and nanny?” Meanwhile, @realTobiAkinbo added a playful jab, noting, “Na the whole local government dey specially assist you so oo😂😂.”
