Oyebanji pledges alliance with Nigerian Law School

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the Nigerian Law School through a robust public-private partnership model.

The governor pledged his support yesterday, during a high-level visit by the institution’s new management, led by its first female Director General, Olugbemisola Odusote.

The meeting, described as a strategic homecoming for the Ekiti-born Director General, focused on addressing the infrastructure deficit across the institution’s campuses and improving the quality of legal training in Nigeria.

Oyebanji emphasised that the Law School is too critical to national development for its growth to be left solely to the federal government.

He proposed a multifaceted approach to infrastructure development.

The governor pledged to engage his colleagues in the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to explore collaborative funding for Law School projects.

He urged the institution to leverage its vast network of successful graduates by encouraging private sector players to “brand” and adopt specific infrastructure projects.

Oyebanji advised the management to create a formal structure that allows its alumni—whom he described as a “great resource”—to give back effectively.

“The Law School is critical to national development because the quality of lawyers turned out has a direct impact on the tone of law and order and the administration of justice,” Oyebanji stated.

“We are in this together… we will do everything humanly possible to ensure you succeed.”The governor expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for appointing an “illustrious daughter of Ekiti” to lead the institution.

He hailed Odusote as a personification of the state’s core values—competence, integrity, and character—and urged her to use these traits to leave a lasting legacy.

Odusote thanked the governor for the state’s enthusiastic celebration of her appointment.

She outlined her vision for a “new era” at the Nigerian Law School, highlighting key priorities.

She said she plans to improve staff welfare by hosting a specialised retreat aimed at boosting morale and enhancing teaching quality.

She also emphasised advancing student development through the growth of human capital and the improvement of welfare standards across all campuses.

Additionally, she pledged to foster institutional growth by promoting innovation through active dialogue with stakeholders.
