Pastor Chris Okafor turns self in to police for questioning

Founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Pastor Chris Okafor, has reported to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Lagos after earlier failing to show up when invited by the police.

He arrived at the SCID on Tuesday afternoon.

Sources told The Nation that he decided to appear after being cautioned about ignoring official invitations.

His case is linked to a petition already under investigation at the Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan involving actress Doris Ogalla and other allegations raised by different women.

According to police sources, Okafor had believed the ongoing case at Zone 2 was enough and that he did not need to respond to other units.

However, he later went to SCID in Yaba where his statement was taken.

He was not detained because, according to police, none of the alleged victims has yet appeared to file a formal complaint, despite offers of protection and support.

The Lagos Command has now stepped aside to allow the Zone 2 investigation to continue, but the police say they are still willing to receive any victim who decides to come forward.

The cleric had earlier been invited to appear on or before Monday morning through a letter dated January 3, but he did not show up at the time.

Okafor has been facing public backlash after a series of accusations surfaced online from different women, including persons linked to him in the past.

The Lagos Commissioner of Police ordered an investigation after more claims were reported online.

The matter also became louder after his dispute with actress Doris Ogala, who accused him of breaking a promise to marry her and raised further claims about their past relationship.

The pastor, who married a new bride named Pearl on December 16, first rejected the allegations but later admitted to some wrongdoing.

He apologised to his church members and stepped aside from leading the church.

Other women have also accused him of abuse of power and improper conduct in the church.

Ogalla has continued to speak publicly and also accused him of sharing private images and causing distress in her personal life.

She further claimed he tried to pay her to deny her story, which she said she refused.

Her lawyers later demanded damages, alleging threats and intimidation after her arrest.

Police investigations are still ongoing while the Zone 2 Command continues to handle the main petition.
