Nigerian Striker Wins Turkish Golden Boot

Trabzonspor striker Paul Onuachu has finished the 2025/26 Turkish Süper Lig campaign as joint Golden Boot winner. The Nigerian forward scored 22 league goals and shared the award with İstanbul Başakşehir’s Eldor Shomurodov, who also reached the same number of goals on the final day.

Onuachu’s consistency proved decisive. The towering forward commanded the scoring charts for most of the season. Notably, he scored in eight consecutive league matches following his return from the Africa Cup of Nations.

His 22‑goal tally places him among the most prolific marksmen in the division. Behind Onuachu and Shomurodov, Fenerbahçe’s Anderson Talisca finished third with 19 goals. Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen, last season’s top scorer with 26 goals, ended the campaign on 15 strikes.

His 22 league goals account for 36 percent of Trabzonspor’s total in the Super Lig this season. Furthermore, the club earned 66 percent of their league points in matches where Onuachu scored. This demonstrates his immense value to the team.

Onuachu became only the sixth Trabzonspor player in club history to finish as the Turkish top‑flight’s leading scorer. The former Genk and Midtjylland striker joins an exclusive group of club legends.

The Nigeria Football Federation congratulated the forward on Monday, praising his impressive form. “Paul Onuachu was a force to reckon with, scoring 22 goals in the Süper Lig this season,” the NFF said in a statement, highlighting his consistency and clinical finishing in key matches.

From Southampton’s bench to Turkey’s summit, Onuachu has proven that the towering presence who once terrorised Belgian defences never truly left. He simply needed the right stage to return.
