He left United at the close of the 2022-23 season, marking the end of a career often hampered by injuries.

Despite these setbacks, the former defender, who joined United in 2011, now aims to lead from the sidelines in the next phase of his football journey.

“My career finished shorter than I would have liked,” he said while speaking to the BBC.

“[I’m] glass half full. [I have] completed my A licence and I want to get out there and challenge myself in coaching.

“Ultimately I want to take charge of a team. I am determined to get there.”

Phil Jones’ 12-year stint at Manchester United saw him collect an array of silverware. These included included the 2013 English Premier League title during Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season.

He also hoisted the FA Cup in 2016, followed by the League Cup, Europa League, and two Community Shields.

Jones began his professional journey at Blackburn, making his senior debut in 2009 before moving to United.

Reflecting on his career, the defender opened up about the relentless challenges he faced: “I did everything possible to make a comeback, but constant rehabs take a toll—not just on you, but on your family as well.”

In 2021, Jones, once a promising centre-back, revealed the extent of his struggles. He stated he had “been through hell and back” with injuries and the added isolation of the pandemic.

Despite these setbacks, Jones found a new chapter in football, reportedly returning to United last September to share his experience and wisdom as a youth coach.
