The Lagos State Police Command has moved quickly to calm rising tension across parts of the city, dismissing widely circulated social media messages warning of an impending cult clash as false.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Command addressed growing concerns in communities such as Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda and the Ishaga axis, where online posts had claimed rival groups were planning retaliatory attacks.
Although there has been no confirmed incident, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, ordered an immediate and visible security response to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
Police units were deployed across the affected areas and surrounding communities, with officers maintaining continuous day-and-night patrols in identified flashpoints.
The Command also ensured high visibility policing by strategically positioning personnel to deter any potential unrest, while expanding security coverage to reassure residents and safeguard businesses.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.
