A Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja has struck out the criminal case instituted by the Nigeria Police against social media activist, VeryDarkMan, citing a lack of evidence.
The decision was delivered on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, bringing an end to the legal proceedings that began in 2024.
Reacting to the ruling in a video shared on Instagram, VeryDarkMan announced that the court had discharged and acquitted him after nearly two years of litigation.
“First of all congratulations to me after two years of battling in court with Nigerian police over the charge that I wore a Nigerian Police uniform therefore impersonating the Nigeria Police, a criminal offense punishable by two-five years.
“It’s with great pleasure to announce to you that the battles are all over, the case has been struck out for lack of evidence and therefore I have been honorably discharged and acquitted.”

VeryDarkMan was arraigned in 2024 on allegations of impersonating a police officer after appearing in the Nigeria Police uniform without authorisation.

In November 2024, the court granted him bail in the sum of N2 million.
The charges followed a viral video in which the social media activist referred to himself as a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and Nigeria’s “number one online police officer.”
