‘Politics is tricky for me now’ – Davido rethinks political ambition

Nigerian music star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has disclosed that his interest in politics has waned, citing concerns shaped by the experiences of celebrities who ventured into governance.

The Afrobeats singer made the revelation during a recent livestream on Twitch with streamer Davrel, where he reflected on the challenges public figures face when crossing over from entertainment into politics.

According to him, the track record of entertainers who have attempted such a shift has not been encouraging, prompting him to reconsider his earlier ambition.

Davido noted that while he once seriously considered entering partisan politics, the reputation he has built in the music industry and the realities he now observes have made him more cautious.

“Before, I wanted to go into politics but honestly, now, I see it two ways. All my years of goodwill, my name and my career, all the hard work and the fan base we have built, it is tricky because the way people look at things; the superstars that have gone into politics, the transition hasn’t really been successful,” he said.

“I feel like if you are a politician, you are a politician. It is like it is their business,” Davido added.
