Pregnant woman, minor killed in Ogun accident


A pregnant woman and a minor have died after they were crushed to death by a truck along the the Abeokuta-Ibadan highway, Ogun State on Friday.

Reports indicate that the truck conveying heavy bags of cement, veered off the road and rammed into a building.

Two persons were instantly confirmed dead while four other occupants of the building sustained various degrees of injuries.

The unfortunate incident was caused by the DAF Truck marked, BDJ 112 XF.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Corps confimed the incident. Spokesman of the Ogun State TRACE Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident.

While speaking, Akinbiyi said the truck was travelling from Ewekoro to Ibadan when the ugly incident occurred. He blamed the accident on excessive speeding of the driver of the cement-laden truck.

He further stated that a team of mobile police officers were deployed to the scene of the crash. This was to prevent youths who were angry about the incident from causing chaos at the scene of the accident.

The spokesman also revealed that the remains of the pregnant woman and the kid have been deposited at the morgue of the Odeda General Hospital.

He said, “corpses of the pregnant woman and minor have been deposited at Odeda General Hospital morgue, while the remaining accident victims were rescued and taken to Ajitola Hospital At Kila, for medical treatment.”
