Premier league 23/24: All the award winners

The 2023/2024 Premier League season has now come to an end after 38 entertaining rounds of game. With the end of each season comes peculiarities for respective teams and their individual players to assess the levels they hit as regards personal best and collective team efforts.

Here, we take a look at some of the feats achieved by clubs and their individual players this campaign.

Winners – Manchester City

Manchester City bagged the 2023/24 Premier League title

Pep Guardiola’s outfit have been crowned champions of the 23/24 season after snatching it from Arsenal at the death on the final day. The club have now set a record of four successive campaigns in which they’ve attained this feat while also taking six of the last seven available. Only Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool slowed their role earlier in the 19/20 campaign.

City recorded a 91 point campaign with a goal difference of positive 62 (level with runner-up Arsenal).

Top scorer – Erling Haaland

Manchester City and Norwegian forward Erling Haaland

Norwegian forward Erling Haaland became just the fourth foreign player to win the premier league golden boot in back-to-back seasons. He also settles in elite company by himself as the first to do it while securing the league title in either campaign.

Haaland ended the campaign with 27 goals, miles shy off his 36-goal record breaking haul in the previous season. However, being able to establish a more than comfortable lead over former teammate Cole Palmer in second place.

Playmaker award – Ollie Watkins

Perhaps unconventional, but the playmaker award goes to an out and out striker this campaign. Watkins fine season with Villa sees him depose Liverpool’s Mo Salah as the most creative in terms of assists.

The English forward found 13 assists to his name across the campaign, very instrumental to Unai Emery’s side as they secured a UEFA champions league spot. Watkins who was also in contention for the player of the year added a further 19 goals to his tally, hitting no penalties along the way.

Relegation

All three promoted teams in Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton Town have all returned to the second division in which they came. While Sheffield United sacked their gaffer mid-season and reacquired the services of Chris Wilder, Burnley and Luton have stuck with Vincent Kompany and Rob Edwards respectively.

Most goal involvements – Cole Palmer

Chelsea’s summer signing from City genuinely took the league by storm. His inspiring performances in a struggling Chelsea side earned him the premier league young player of the year award. Palmer, 22, led the way amongst Chelsea players for both goals (22) and assists (11). The combined 33 total puts him one ahead of Erling Haaland and Ollie Watkins. Palmer also accumulated the most fantasy premier league points this campaign.

Premier League player of the year 

Manchester City and English forward Phil Foden.

Phil Foden was rewarded with the premier league player of the year for his remarkable performances across the season. On a crucial final day, Foden found a goal just 78 seconds into the encounter against West Ham and added a close second to take his goal tally for the campaign to 19 non-penalty goals and 8 assists to propel City to a fourth straight title.

Most clean sheets

David Raya on loan from Brentford to Arsenal started the season as second fiddle to Aaron Ramsdale before finally making the spot his. He was rewarded with the golden gloves award at the end of the campaign. His 16 shutouts over a 32-game shift was at least three more than the next placed goalkeeper (Pickford,13).

Bookings

Chelsea club captain Reece James

Fulham’s no-nonsense midfielder Joao Palhinha and Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi received 13 yellow cards apiece with Villa’s Douglas Luiz closely trailing them with 12 received. 

Chelsea captain Reece James, North-London colleague Yves Bissouma and Sheffield forward Oliver McBurnie got sent off on a season-high two times apiece.
