Game week 9 of the English Premier League is in the bag with lots of talking points from the action over the weekend.
The league table is beginning to take familiar shape as the top sides are gradually climbing to the top of the table.
Premier League Week 9 – Saturday
Newcastle United 0 – 2 Chelsea
The weekend opened with a clash between the Magpies and Frank Lampard’s men at St James’ Park.

The Blues had most of the possession and Chelsea went forward as early as the 10th minute from Federico Fernandes’s own goal.
Although the visitors were really dominant for most of the game, they struggled to take their chances. Timo Werner eventually sets up Tammy Abraham for the second goal in the 65th minute.
The result pushed Chelsea to third place.
Aston Villa 1 – 2 Brighton & Hove Albion
Graham Potter’s men finally got their second win of the season after a couple of unlucky results in past games. The Seagulls took the lead early in the game as new signings Adam Lallana and Danny Welbeck combined to produce the first goal.
The Villains were the dominant side but struggled to take their chances. Ezri Konsa drew Aston Villa level just after half time before Solly March gave Brighton the lead again in the 56th minute.
Aston Villa almost had a chance at to take home a point but the decision to award a penalty kick was overturned after a VAR review.
It was the third loss of the season for the Villains but they remain in the top half of the table at 7th place. Brighton on the other hand is safe with 5 points above relegation place.
Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Manchester City
The 24th clash between Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola ended in a 2-0 win for the Portuguese.
The hosts got an early lead as Son Heung Min converted from Tanguay Ndombele’s beautifully weighted through ball.
Jose Mourinho’s men then tried to keep the lead as the Citizens had more possession of the ball and created more chances. Manchester City’s equalizer was cancelled after a VAR review due to a handball in the build-up.
Shortly after Giovani Lo Celso came on in the second half, he was set up by Harry Kane to extend Tottenham’s lead. The game was pretty much over by then as Jose Mourinho’s men were defensively secure.
Spurs moves to the top of the Premier League and are now being counted as a genuine title contender.

Manchester United 1 – 0 West Bromwich Albion
Manchester United nicked a 1-0 victory over West Brom to get their first home win of the season.
The match was goalless till half time, with United having a couple of chances. Early in the second half, the Baggies had a penalty that was overturned by the referee after a VAR review.
Not long after, Manchester United was awarded a penalty which gave the Red Devils the lead. The result pushed Manchester United to the top half of the table for the first time this season.
Sunday Premier League results
Fulham 2 – 3 Everton
The early goal pattern continued on Sunday afternoon as Dominic Calvert Lewin gave the Toffees the lead in the first minute.
Bobby Reid drew the Cottagers level in the 15th minute before Calvert-Lewin added to his goal tally just before half time, after being set up by Lucas Digne.
Abdoulaye Doucoure extended Everton’s lead before half time. After the hosts lost another penalty, Ruben Loftus-Cheek scored his debut goal in the second half to reduce the deficit.
The Toffees claimed victory and ended their losing streak.
Sheffield United 0 – 1 West Ham United
Sheffield United’s woeful form continues with a loss at Bramall Lane. They are one of 2 teams yet to win a match this season. They have earned just one point in 9 games and sit at the bottom of the table.
Chris Wilder’s men held the Hammers to a stalemate in the first half of the game. However, West Ham took the lead in the 59th minute through Sebastian Haller to earn all three points.
West Ham now sits 8th in the Premier League with 14 points.

Leeds United 0-0 Arsenal
10 man Arsenal held Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds to a goalless draw at Elland Road on Sunday.
The first half ended with both teams dominating at different periods of the game. However in the second half, Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe was sent off for violent conduct.
Despite Leeds United’s dominance, they were unable to find the back of the net. Both teams now sit in the bottom half of the table at 12th and 14th.
Liverpool 3 – 0 Leicester City
Liverpool showed the strength of their squad as they cruised past the Foxes in a 3-0 victory at home despite their injury woes.
The defending champions took the lead in the 21st minute from Jonny Evans’ own goal from a corner kick. New signing Diogo Jota extended Liverpool’s lead just before half time with an assist from Andrew Robertson.
Roberto Firmino sealed the game in the 86th minute heading home a James Milner cross.
Liverpool now sits 2nd place in the Premier League standings behind Tottenham Hotspur on goal difference.
Premier League Week 9: Monday action
Burnley 1 – 0 Crystal Palace
Burnley eventually got their first victory of the season against Crystal Palace at Turf Moor.
Chris Wood gave the Clarets the lead as early as the 8th minute which they kept for the entire game. Ben Mee’s return has improved Burnley’s defence as they have now kept 2 clean sheets in a row.
The result pushed Burnley out of the relegation zone with a game in hand but Crystal Palace now sits in the bottom half.
Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-1 Southampton
Pedro Neto’s 75th minute equalizer earned Wolverhampton Wanderers a point at home.
Theo Walcott, assisted by Che Adams gave the Saints the lead in the 58th minute after a goalless first half.
Pedro Neto then drew the home side level after reacting quickly to a loose ball.
Southampton now sits 5th in the Premier League table, extending their unbeaten run to 7 games in the Premier League.
