Elder statesman and Pan Niger Delta Forum leader, Edwin Clark, has passed away at the age of 97.
His death was confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday by a family representative, Prof. C. C. Clark.
“The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, wishes to announce the passing of Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark OFR, CON on Monday, 17th February 2025.
“The family appreciates your prayers at this time. Other details will be announced later by the family,” the statement read.

Born on May 25, 1927, Edwin Clark was a Nigerian statesman, Ijaw leader, and politician from Delta State. He played a significant role in Nigeria’s political landscape, serving in various capacities between 1966 and 1975. He worked closely with the administrations of military governor Samuel Ogbemudia and head of state General Yakubu Gowon.
In 1966, he was appointed a member of an advisory committee to the military governor of the Mid-Western Region, David Ejoor, before becoming the Federal Commissioner of Information in 1975.
Beyond his political career, Clark was an influential voice in national affairs and served as an unofficial advisor to President Goodluck Jonathan. He was also known for his philanthropic efforts, founding the Edwin Clark Foundation and establishing a university in his hometown.
