Real Madrid marked another historic chapter in their Champions League journey with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Marseille on Tuesday night.
The win not only opened their 2025/26 European campaign on a high but also secured their place in the record books as the first club to reach 200 Champions League victories.
The Spanish giants, 15-time winners of Europe’s biggest prize, were forced to dig deep in France. Timothy Weah stunned the visitors by giving Marseille the lead in the 22nd minute.
However, Real’s resilience was swift, as Kylian Mbappé equalised from the penalty spot just six minutes later to silence the home crowd.
Mbappé delivers milestone moment
Despite Dani Carvajal’s second-half dismissal leaving Los Blancos with 10 men, their determination did not waver. With just nine minutes left on the clock, Mbappé once again stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to seal victory and secure Madrid’s 200th Champions League win.

After being named Man of the Match, Mbappé played down talk of leadership, stressing instead his focus on contributing in every way possible.
“I’m not thinking of being the leader, I’m just thinking of being Kylian,” he said. “I want to help the team, whether it’s by scoring, pressing, or working hard.”
Madrid eyes sixteenth crown
Having last lifted the trophy in 2024 with victory over Borussia Dortmund at Wembley, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are already setting their sights on a record-extending 16th European crown.
Their next Champions League assignment is against Kazakhstan’s Kairat on September 30, where momentum and history will once again be on their side.
