Reggae pioneer and acclaimed actor James Chambers, better known to the world as Jimmy Cliff, has passed away.
The announcement of his death was made on his official social media platforms.
A statement from his wife revealed that the globally celebrated artiste died “due to a seizure followed by pneumonia.”
“It’s with profound sadness that I share that my husband, Jimmy Cliff, has crossed over due to a seizure followed by pneumonia,” she wrote on his Facebook page.
She expressed gratitude to everyone who had been part of his life and career, saying, “I am thankful for his family, friends, fellow artists and coworkers who have shared his journey with him.”

The message also acknowledged the support of fans across continents. “To all his fans around the world, please know that your support was his strength throughout his whole career. He really appreciated every fan for their love,” the post continued.
She further appreciated the medical team that attended to him in his final moments. “I also wanted to thank Dr. Couceyro and the whole medical staff, as they have been extremely supportive and helpful during this difficult process. Jimmy, my darling, may you rest in peace. I will follow your wishes.”
She ended the statement by asking the public to respect their privacy while they grieve, noting that “further information will be provided at a later date.”
