Review of Premier League Game Week 14

The action from Premier League GameWeek 14 was pretty intense, with many teams under immense pressure to get three points in every game.

Letā€™s take a look at all the drama as we review the wins, the loses and the stalemates.

Saturday action

Crystal Palace 0 – 7 Liverpool

The defending champions made a statement in the opening game of the game week as they hit 7 past Crystal Palace without conceding.

The league leaders have been quite poor in performances away from home this season. But they used this opportunity to set the record straight.

The scoring began quite early as Takumi Miniamino who started instead of Mohammed Salah found the back of the net in the 3rd minute. Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino added 2 more goals before half time.

The Reds took no time to resume goalscoring in the second half as Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson added another in the 52nd minute. Mohammed Salah couldnā€™t miss out of the goal fest as he assisted Roberto Firmino for the 5th goal before scoring 2 more for himself.

It was an awful experience for the Eagles who now sit 13th place in the league.

Southampton 0 – 1 Manchester City

The Manchester Clubs have proven to be resistant to Ralph Hasenhuttlā€™s magic as the Saints lost all 3 points to Pep Guardiolaā€™s men on Saturday in a closely contested encounter.

An early goal from Raheem Sterling assisted by Kevin De Bruyne gave the Citizens the only goal to get all 3 points. An injury to Danny Ings which led to his early substitution cut down the Saintā€™s goal-scoring chances.

Southampton drops out of top 4 after the defeat but remains above their opponents. They sit in 6th place with a point ahead of the Citizens.

Everton 2 – 1 Arsenal

Carlo Ancelottiā€™s men triumphed over the Gunners at Goodison Park as they move into the top 4.

The Toffees have found a way to cope with their ever-growing list of injuries as they claimed victory over Leicester City, Chelsea and Arsenal within 7 days.

An effort from Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the 22nd minute was deflected into the back of the net to open the scoring.

The Gunners replied 13 minutes after as Nicolas Pepe converted from the penalty spot.

A corner taken by Gilfy Sigurdsson and headed home by Yerry Mina just before half time, turned out to be the winner.

Arsenal’s woes continue as they are yet to win a Premier League game since the 1st of November. They remain in 15th place with 4 points above the relegation places.

Newcastle 1 – 1 Fulham

The Magpies and the Cottagers both settled for a point in their clash at St James park on Saturday.

A Matt Ritchie own goal gave Fulham the lead just before half time. The Magpies levelled up in the second half when Callum Wilson scored from the penalty spot. The spot-kick was won by a professional foul on him that led to the sending off of Joachim Anderson.

The result didnā€™t have much impact on Steve Bruceā€™s side as they stay 12th place with 3 points from the top half of the table.

Premier League GameWeek 14 – Sunday’s games

Brighton 1 – 1 Sheffield United

Chris Wilderā€™s men earn their 2nd point of the season as they played out a 1-1 draw with Brighton at the AMEX stadium.

The scoreline however did not tell the story of the game as they took dominance of the game.

The Blades went a man down in the first half when John Lundstram – who just returned to his sideā€™s starting line up – received a red card.

They still managed to score a goal as David McGoldrick set up Jayden Bogle for the opening goal of the game in the second half.

Brighton scored an equalizer in the 87th minute through Danny Welbeck to end the game in a draw.

The result isnā€™t favourable for either team as they remain in the heat of the relegation battle.

Tottenham Hotspur 0 – 2 Leicester City

Spurs drop out of top four after losing their second game in a row in a defeat to Leicester City. The Foxes took dominance of the game as they reverted to their usual 4-1-4-1 set up.

The first goal of the game came just before halftime when Jamie Vardy converted from the penalty spot.

James Maddisonā€™s goal early in the second half was ruled out by VAR for being offside. Brendan Rodgersā€™ men finally extended their lead 11 minutes later as Jamie Vardyā€™s header was deflected home by Toby Alderweireld.

The win took the visitors to 2nd place, 4 points shy of the top of the table while Spurs are 5th place.

Manchester United 6 – 2 Leeds United

A battle between bitter rivals turned out to be the most exciting game of the weekend. With fast attacks on both ends, the local rivals played out an open goal-filled game which ended in favour of the home side.

Manchester United opened scoring quite early as Scott McTominay who scored twice in the first 3 minutes, set a Premier League record for a fastest brace in a Premier League game.

Goals from Bruno Fernades and Victor Lindelof gave the home side a 4-0 lead by the 37th minute.

Leeds United’s unrelenting attitude paid off for a minute as they were able to pull one back through Liam Cooper before half time.

A second-half strike from Daniel James and a Bruno Fernades penalty took the game out of reach for the Peacocks. However, 3 minutes after Manchester Unitedā€™s 6th goal, they reduced the deficit with a belter from Stuart Dallas.

The result moved the Red Devils 3rd place with 5 points away from Liverpool at the top of the league.

West Bromwich Albion 0 – 3 Aston Villa

The Villains got back to winning ways with victory over The Baggies. Answar El-Ghazi quickly compensated his team for losing so many chances in the previous game by scoring an early goal.

Things got worse for West Brom as they were reduced to 10 men in the 36th minute when Jake Livermore was sent off for violent conduct.

The Villains dominated the game and extended their lead in the 84th minute as Jack Grealish teed Bertrand Traore for the second goal of the night. El-Ghazi converted from the penalty spot to complete his brace and sealed the victory for Dean Smithā€™s men.

Monday: Final games of Premier League GameWeek 14

Burnley 2 – 1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Sean Dycheā€™s men climbed out of relegation with a shock victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Clarets have been putting up good performances of late and are deservedly out of relegation zone with a game in hand.

Ashley Barnes opened the score sheet in the 35th minute assisted by Charlie Taylor. Chris Wood added another for the home side in the 51st minute to extend their lead.

In a bid to get something out of the game, Fabio Silva won a penalty for Wolves which he placed in the back of the net to reduce the deficit. The visitors were unable to get an equalizer.

Chelsea 3 – 0 West Ham United

Chelsea got back to winning ways with victory over West Ham at Stamford Bridge. The scoring began quite early as Mason Mount found Thiago Silva from his corner kick, which the Chelsea defender headed home.

A second-half brace from Tammy Abraham sealed the game for the home side. The result sees Chelsea climb up to 5th place and sees West Ham at 10th place on the league table.
