Saka shines as Arsenal move eight points clear of Man City

Bukayo Saka made Arsenal history as he helped his side to move eight points clear of title rivals Manchester City with a 4-1 win over Crystal Palace at the Emirates stadium.

Palace who had sacked their manager, Arsenal legend, Patrick Vieira on the eve of this encounter also lost defender Joachim Andersen to injury in the warm up.

Arsenal were also forced to make a change of their own in defence, with young sensation, William Saliba replaced by Rob Holding.

Gabriel Martinelli converted a Saka cross for his sixth goal in as many matches, before Saka doubled Arsenal’s advantage just before half time.

Granit Xhaka who scored in Arsenal’s midweek penalty shoot-out loss to Sporting, added a third from Leandro Trossard’s pass 10 minutes after half-time, before Jeffrey Schlupp reduced the deficit on 63 minutes, scoring Palace’s first league goal since February.

However, Bukayo Saka restored Arsenal’s 3 goals advantage by adding his second of the afternoon, firing in from Kieran Tierney’s cut back in the 74th minute to give his boyhood club a resounding 4-1 victory.

Arsenal’s win was their sixth straight top-flight success, while they also became the first club in Premier League history to win nine London derbies in a single season.

Crystal Palace, who are without a victory in 2023, remain 12th, three points clear of third-bottom West Ham United, having played two matches more.
