Samklef claims ownership of six songs from Wizkid’s first album

Music producer and singer Samuel Oguachuba, popularly called Samklef, has stated that he holds rights to six songs from Wizkid’s debut album titled Superstar.

Samklef in a tweet, explained that these tracks came from recording sessions at his own studio, and no payment covered the studio time used for them.

He added that no official agreement or contract existed for the work done back then.

Samklef mentioned he feels glad he never borrowed money using any masters as security.

He now plans to reach out to Banky W to discuss the situation, since the lack of a signed deal from the start leaves room for talks.

He expressed hope that the masters for Wizkid’s Superstar album have not been sold to anyone else.

According to him, the unpaid studio fees and his ownership of the recording space mean he controls those six specific tracks from the project’s masters.

“Thank God I never used my masters to collect any loan. I’m about to negotiate with @BankyW since I didn’t sign any contract from the beginning. I hope the Wizkid Superstar masters were never sold,” he wrote.“I own 6 tracks from the masters because Banky didn’t pay for the studio sessions — and I also own the studio where all the songs were recorded”, he said.

The album Superstar came out on June 12, 2011, through the label Empire Mates Entertainment, or EME.

It served as Wizkid’s first full studio project and helped launch his career in the music scene.

The record included several popular songs and brought together production work from various names such as Samklef, Shizzi, Jay Sleek, DJ Klem, Masterkraft, and E-Kelly. Artists who appeared as guests on the album were Wande Coal, D’Prince, Banky W, and Skales.
