Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commissioned a newly built community centre on Bamgbose Street, marking a significant addition to social infrastructure in the area.
The three-storey facility, named the Paulinus Olusegun Carrena Popo Aguda Community Centre, was dedicated to the memory of the late Pa Paulinus Olusegun Carrena, a respected educationist and administrator, and father of the Lagos State First Lady.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sanwo-Olu described the centre as a meaningful investment in the people, urging residents to use it to strengthen unity and community spirit.
“I am delighted to see this project come to fruition,” he said, encouraging locals to embrace the space as a hub for collective growth and support.
The First Lady, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who led the initiative, said the project was her way of giving back to the Popo Aguda community.
She also thanked the governor for his support in bringing the vision to life.

Beyond serving as a gathering point, the facility was designed with modern features to meet the needs of residents.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, noted that the building includes open spaces for events and exhibitions, a dedicated parking area to ease congestion, and security features to ensure users’ safety.
In recognition of compliance with regulatory standards, the General Manager of the Lagos State Physical Planning Permits Authority (LASPPPA), Kehinde Osinaike, presented the official planning permit to the First Lady.
He commended her for following due process throughout the project.Speaking on behalf of the community, Razak Abiodun expressed appreciation to the First Family for the development.

He assured that residents would take responsibility for maintaining the facility and making the most of it.
The event attracted several dignitaries, including Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Pedro Lawal, APC Apex Leader Babajide Damazio, and former LASU Vice-Chancellor Abisogun Leigh.
The commissioning reflects the state government’s continued focus on grassroots development and urban renewal under its “Greater Lagos Rising” agenda.
