Filmmaker Tunde Kelani announces ‘Saworoide’ Part 2


Ace movie producer, Tunde Kelani, has announced that part 2 of Saworoide, an iconic movie, will be released soon.

Kelani, who specialized in producing movies that promote Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage for more than four decades disclosed this via his Twitter handle.

He stated that when there is a cultural vacuum, moral and mental decay follows.Kelani tweeted: “When there is a cultural vacuum, moral and mental decay follows. Saworoide 2 (new movie) is coming soon.”

Saworoide [brass bell talking drum] depicts the setting of an old Yoruba norm in the town of Jogbo where a person can not be crowned king without a ritual that involves the playing of a Saworoide.

In the movie, Jogbo kingdom is a community locked in a battle about who will take over as the heir to the throne.

The movie released in 1999 utilizes Yoruba storytelling in terms of powerful proverbs and cultural symbolism explored themes of power, corruption, and the struggle for justice in a society where the voices of the people are often silenced.

Saworoide also offers commentary on the current political and economic landscape of Nigeria making it one of the most politically charged movies in the history of the movie industry.

The movie featured talented casts such as: Kola Oyewo, Bukky Wright, Lere Paimo, Larinde Akinleye, Peter Fatomilola, Kunle Bamtefa, Adebayo Faleti, Kayode Olaiya, and Doyin Hassan.

A few hours after announcing the plan of releasing part 2 of the movie, Nollywood fans have taken to their social media handles to express their excitement as they enthusiastically anticipated.
