‘Can You Fix Nigeria’ Series – Episode 4
After months of observing the slow response to the COVID crisis and the general hopelessness of the citizenry; Culbeat Foundation initiated a series of non-partisan policy talks to evaluate the problems facing Nigeria in October 2020.
There are strict rules in place to avoid partisanship, online abuse and to open our minds in order to discuss issues concerning Nigeria. This series is tagged the Can You Fix Nigeria Challenge and the episodes were recorded between November 2020 and March 2021.
It is our pleasure to serialise these discussions with you via News Round The Clock.
Episode 4 – Security and Policing
In this 4th edition of the series, we discuss what I consider the number one issue plaguing Nigeria today. We explore some of the measures that can be taken, including the vexing problem of community policing.
‘Can You Fix Nigeria – Episode 4’ was hosted just as the #EndSARS riots broke out in Nigeria. This episode does not fully cover the riots because the facts weren’t yet clear as at the time of recording. However, we sought to understand the real drivers for the riots.
Overall, this episode covers critical security challenges such as police reforms, the EndSARS riots, the National Guard, banditry in the North-Western States and Boko Haram issues.
