Seun Kuti lampoons Nollywood for endorsing ritual killing

SEUN KUTI

Seun Kuti, the son of legendary Nigerian artiste, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti dragged the Nigerian movie industry for promoting and enhancing ritual killing.

During his Instagram live session on Thursday February 17, Seun Kuti mentioned that the Nigerian movie industry, otherwise known as Nollywood is responsible for propagating the notion that people can make money by using other people for sacrifice.

He went further to argue during the session that it is impossible for people to find success from beheading or killing innocent people. Seun Kuti’s statement is coming after he specifically mentioned on his Instagram page a couple of days ago that wealthy people amass their wealth from rituals.

Seun Kuti wrote;

“99 percent of the wealth in the country is earned by sacrificing the lives and destinies of millions of Nigerians; that is the real money ritual!!

You think say na ordinary eye dey make Dangote trailer no get brake?

Then smash children to death?

In recent years, there have been numerous reports about young people indulging themselves in heinous crimes such as ritual killing and other diabolical means just to make money.

Ritual killing is fast becoming a prevalent practice in Nigeria.

Several days after Seun Kuti’s post went viral on social media; he took to his Instagram live to also explain how wealthy people often take advantage of the poor. An outburst that is coming several weeks after three young men were arrested for attempting to use a teenage girl for ritual.

Seun Kuti specifically mentioned during his session that it is time for people to be reoriented about money rituals.

The former Grammy nominee stated that the wealthy class often buy human parts and use them for their own benefits; the youngest member of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s offspring opined that the politicians and elites of the society should be arrested for the crime that they have committed.

Equally, Kuti mentioned that it is an absolute waste of time to waste lives and kill people because they want to make money without going through the appropriate procedure.

Seun Kuti also admonished Nigerian youths to desist from engaging in ritual because it is detrimental to their growth. He went further to mention that Nigerian social media influencers and thespians in the Nigerian movie industry should do better in enlightening their viewers.

Speaking against the diabolic practice, Seun Kuti dubbed social media influencers ‘cotton wool heads’ for promoting diabolism through their platform.

“There is no African shrine that prints money from any dead 💀 nor ⚰️.”

He continued;

“The youth should not be deceived into that.”

Kuti spoke about the Nigerian system;

“What we have are people harvesting human parts for rich people in the hospitals and companies of rich people cutting corners; and killing people in the process for profitability.

This encouraged by the selective enforcement of rules and regulations; and the absence thereof caused by the legislative and executive arms of government; who have overpowered the judiciary by creating a kangaroo system without an independent judiciary nor electoral system.”

How social media comedians can curb prevalence of ritual practice

Since the turn of the 2010s, online comedy has gained prominence and the creatives have become one of the most influential figures in the country. Comedians such as Mr. Macaroni, Sabinus aka Mr. Funny, Isbae U amongst several others have made a name for themselves through comedy and content creation.

Albeit, social media content creators are products of the society, hence, they will more often-than-not promote activities that they witness in their environs. For instance, most comedians will discuss themes of ritualism, premarital sex, marriage/relationships, etc. to entertain their audience.

While trying their best to entertain and make their audience laugh, most comedians enable the practice. In a comedy skit released earlier in February 2022, popular comedian and social activist, Mr. Macaroni real name Adebola Adebayo made attempts to speak about the ills of ritual.

He mentioned in the skit that people will always pick whatever lessons they want from a comedy drama. Speaking further, Macaroni said people should endeavor to choose lessons that will aid their life instead of the need to imitate others.
