Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has clashed with Shehu Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, after Shehu referred to President Bola Tinubu as a drug baron.

The exchange started after Shehu reacted to a statement by United States President Donald Trump, who had described Nigeria as a disgraced country while threatening military intervention over alleged Christian persecution.

His comment quickly spread on social media, leading to mixed reactions among Nigerians.

While responding to those who condemned Trump’s words, Shehu Abubakar stated that Nigerians had no reason to be angry since, according to him, the country had chosen a drug baron as its leader.

He wrote: “Why are some upset that Donald Trump called us disgraceful? When they announced a drug baron as our President, what do you call that? Prideful? I know it hurts our pride as a nation but we have to first look inwards & hold ourselves accountable before we accuse outsiders”.

His post stirred controversy and drew responses from supporters of the president.

Seyi Law, a known supporter of Tinubu, replied through a post on X, attacking Shehu’s moral stance.

He reminded him of past corruption allegations against his father during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and questioned his right to speak against the current president.

He wrote: “This is coming from someone whose father was called a thief by his principal and indicted as a money launderer in the US. Someone whose father deleted his handler’s tweet about the extra-juducial killing of Deborah. Na really wa.”
