Former Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong was sworn in today as the Senator representing Plateau South District, capping a legal battle that spanned months and ultimately propelled him to the 10th National Assembly.
Lalong, who previously served as Minister of Labour and Employment under President Bola Tinubu, officially took his seat during plenary in the upper chamber.
His ascension follows a Court of Appeal ruling in November declaring him the duly elected Senator and ordering the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue him a Certificate of Return.

In a letter addressed to the President on Tuesday, Lalong acknowledged the trust placed in him during his ministerial tenure and leadership of the successful Tinubu/Shettima campaign for the APC.
However, he emphasized that complying with the court order and assuming his rightful Senate seat was paramount.
He explained “However, after extensive consultations it has become expedient for him to proceed and take his seat at the Red Chambers to continue to contribute to the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr President.”
