Veteran American rapper, Snoop Dogg, has reacted to the criticism trailing his remarks about the LGBTQ+ representation in Disney and Pixar’s 2022 animated film, Lightyear.
The rapper recently appeared on the It’s Giving podcast, where he admitted that a same-sex relationship shown in the movie left him uneasy. According to him, he felt “scared to go to the movies” because he was unsure how to respond to his grandson’s questions about homosexuality.
His comments quickly sparked online backlash, not only against him but also against the podcast for how the episode was edited.
Reacting to the controversy in the comment section of a Hollywood Unlocked Instagram post, Snoop explained: “I was just caught off guard and had no answer for my grandsons.
“All my gay friends [know] what’s up they been calling me with love,” he added. “My bad for not knowing the answers for a 6-year-old … teach me how to learn I’m not perfect.”

Earlier on the podcast, Snoop recalled being thrown off when his grandson asked how a female character in Lightyear could have a baby with another woman.
“I didn’t come in for this sh**. I just came to watch the goddamn movie,” he said, admitting that he panicked when put on the spot. “These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”
The film, voiced by Chris Evans, featured actress Uzo Aduba as space ranger Alisha Hawthorne, who was depicted marrying her partner Kiko and raising a child. The brief montage also included Disney’s first on-screen same-sex kiss.
Snoop’s remarks have since divided opinion online, with critics accusing him of being homophobic.
