Due to the excessive usage of social media, the attention span of the user shortens and they are unable to focus on quintessential information, hence, they suffer information overload.

Information overload occurs when task inputs to the mind exceed its ability to synthesize. The definition of information overload refers to the technologically oriented world where too much information is available about a topic or context. It constitutes excess information available for a person to decode and comprehend. Therefore, information overload causes brain fatigue, limits focus, and impedes decision-making.

It is quintessential to create a balance in everything- life is best enjoyed when boundaries are set in place and one knows how to put things into ideal perspective.
The following are methodologies on how to create a balance with social media usage:
- Engage in real-life conversations and activities with family and friends. Be present and pay rapt attention while youāre there.
- ā Put your phone away while on a date. It is rude to check your phone when you go out with someone, honour them by keeping your cellphones away.
- ā Allow your thoughts to accentuate within your medulla oblongata without being interrupted by content from various people on social media or the internet.
- ā Regulate social media usage. Set aside a specific time, with a time limit, to use social media (and use a timer). Set offline times during the day/week when you’ll be completely offline. Take a temporary break, such as a day or more without using social media, this is according to Psychiatry.org.
