A fairytale romance that united football and tennis royalty has sadly reached its final chapter after nearly a decade of marriage.
Former Bayern Munich legend Bastian Schweinsteiger and retired tennis star Ana Ivanovic have formally ended their nine-year marriage.
The once-envied union between two global icons has come to an emotional close, with “irreconcilable differences” cited as the official cause.
According to a confirmation via Ivanovic’s legal representative, Christian Schertz, the couple have finalised their divorce, thereby putting an end to months of swirling speculation that had surrounded their relationship.

While fans and tabloids alike had grown increasingly curious about the duo’s conspicuous silence on social media, both Schweinsteiger and Ivanovic had remained tight-lipped – until now.

Although their love story began in 2014, it wasn’t until 2016 that they tied the knot in a picturesque Venetian wedding that captured global attention.
By the time of their marriage, Schweinsteiger was nearing the twilight of his decorated football career, while Ivanovic had already stepped away from the sport in December 2016, retiring at the age of 29 due to recurring injuries.
Nevertheless, the pair seemed inseparable for much of their time together, having built a life centred around family and privacy. They welcomed children and supported one another through career transitions — Schweinsteiger moving into punditry and Ivanovic into philanthropy and business.
However, despite what many saw as a picture-perfect relationship, it appears underlying challenges were ultimately too much to overcome.
