Spurs face six weeks without Solanke as injury list grows

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Tottenham Hotspur’s injury woes deepened as Dominic Solanke was confirmed to miss “around six weeks” with a knee injury.

The striker’s absence adds to an already extensive list of sidelined players, leaving Spurs severely shorthanded during a crucial part of the season. Head coach Ange Postecoglou revealed the news following their hard-fought 3-2 Europa League win over Hoffenheim.

Solanke is expected to return in early March, ruling him out of significant fixtures, including the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool.

Postecoglou explained, “With Dom [Solanke], the information now is around the six-week mark with him. No surgery, but we’re looking around six weeks. It might be quicker, but we’ll see.”

Several key players injured

Unfortunately for Spurs, Solanke is not the only key player unavailable. Fellow forwards Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson are also injured, while long-term absentees like goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario remain sidelined.

Although Yves Bissouma, Pape Sarr, and Cristian Romero are nearing a return, their recovery cannot come soon enough for Postecoglou’s stretched squad.

Against Hoffenheim, the situation was dire, with Postecoglou naming only eight substitutes, including two goalkeepers and five teenagers.

Remarkably, 17-year-old debutant Callum Olusesi was one of three teenage substitutes in the match. The coach lauded the young players’ contributions, stating, “It should not be dismissed that I had five teenagers [on the pitch]. It is pretty much unheard of in an important game.”

Despite their injury crisis, Spurs remain in a strong position in Europe. They currently sit fourth in their Europa League group and will progress directly to the knockout phase with a win against Elfsborg.

However, their domestic struggles continue, as they’ve won just one of their last 10 Premier League games, leaving them in 15th place.
