The Nigerian Army has denied claims that they are surrounding the venue of the ongoing negotiation meeting between organised labour unions and federal government representatives.
The meeting, currently taking place at the premises of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), includes the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, and his counterpart in the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Festus Osifo.
Representing the government are the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris Malagi; and Labour Minister, Nkiruka Onyejeocha, among others.
Earlier, NRTC reported that organized labor unions commenced a strike on Monday to press for an increase in the minimum wage. The strike, led by the NLC and TUC, was in response to the federal government’s failure to pass the proposed new minimum wage of N494,000 into law.
