Super Eagles beat Mozambique to record first Friendly win in over four years

The Super Eagles of Nigeria emerged 3-2 winners over Mozambique in an international friendly match on Monday, NRTC reports.

Nice striker Terem Moffi, Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka and Nantes winger Moses Simon scored to secure the win.

The win also ended a run of 15 winless games for the Super Eagles. The Nigerian team had not won an international friendly game in four years and seven months.

Before today’s win, Nigeria last won a friendly encounter in March 2019. Paul Onuachu scored the only goal as the Super Eagles beat Egypt 1-0 four years ago.

Nigeria had drawn 2-2 against Saudi Arabia on Friday in their first of two friendly games during this international break.

Geny Catamo opened scoring as early as the sixth minute but Moffi level 13 minutes later.

On the stroke of the half hour mark, Onyeka scored in a fashion similar to Moffi’s goal.

Mozambique were then reduced to ten men when Edmilson Dove received his marching orders in the 38th minute before Simon converted from the spot.

Catamo turned provider for Faisal Bangal who reduced the deficit in the second half. However, the Mambas could not add to their tally and narrowly lost to the West Africans.

Gent defender Jordan Torunarigha and Hatayspor midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru also made their debuts for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be in action in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers scheduled for November.
