Supreme Court affirms Mbah as Enugu Governor


Peter Mbah has been affirmed as the governor of Enugu State by the Supreme Court.

In a unanimous decision delivered by a five-member panel of justices on Friday, the apex court dismissed an appeal filed by the Labour Party and its candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, challenging the outcome of the governorship election held on March 18, 2023.

In the last governorship election in the state, Mr Mbah polled 160,895 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, who scored 157,552 votes.

The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Frank Nweke Jr, garnered 17,983 votes to come a distant third, while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Uche Nnaji, placed fourth, with 14,575 votes.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Maduebibisi Iwe, announced the result at the State Collation Centre.
