Suspect arrested in connection with attack on Apostle Johnson Suleman

Apostle Johnson Suleman

After a span of ten months following the assault on Apostle Johnson Suleman by gunmen in Edo State, South-south Nigeria, the police have announced the arrest of a suspect.

In October of last year, NRTC reported the incident where gunmen targeted the convoy of Apostle Suleman, founder of Omega Fire Ministries, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals, including three police officers.

The attack took place in the Auchi area of the state while Apostle Suleman was en route to an undisclosed location, shortly after returning from a trip to Tanzania in East Africa.

At the time, the religious leader referred to the incident as an “assassination attempt,” recounting the harrowing experience of bullets being fired at his car, resulting in fatalities among the police officers and other individuals in the convoy.

Force spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement shared on Twitter, revealed that the suspect was part of a seven-member syndicate responsible for the attack.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old plumber Yusuf Isah from Okene in Kogi State, was apprehended in Ondo State, according to Mr. Adejobi.

Mr. Adejobi, a chief superintendent of police, noted that the suspect’s arrest was made in Ondo State, but no specific date was provided.

“Intelligence revealed that the seven-man syndicate has been actively involved in kidnapping operations within Edo State and its surroundings, having conducted approximately four kidnapping operations between 2021 and 2023, before the gang was eventually apprehended by the police,” stated Mr. Adejobi.

Among the recovered items from the suspect were five AK47 rifles, two K2 assault rifles, and 180 rounds of live ammunition.
