The 17th Headies Awards took place on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, bringing together top names from the music industry, entertainment, and even politics.
The event, which celebrated the achievements of musicians over the past year, saw Zerry DL, Tems, Flavour, Rema, and Davido standing out as some of the night’s biggest winners.
The colorful gathering was attended by well-known personalities, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Tanzanian singer Juma Jux with his wife Priscilla, actress Nancy Isime, Bamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan also known as BamBam, socialite Cubana Chief Priest, and White Money, who won Big Brother Naija in 2021.
Also present were Collins Enebeli Ajereh, the father of music producer Don Jazzy, and Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso.
Zerry DL won the Rookie of the Year award, while Tems took home Best Recording of the Year for her song “Burning.” Flavour’s track “Big Baller” was named Afrobeats Single of the Year.

The Headies Next Rated award, one of the most anticipated categories, went to Odumodublvck.
The Soundtrack of the Year award was claimed by TCJ and Abbey Wonder for “Tribe Called Judah Soundtrack,” while the Songwriter of the Year honor went to Chimamanda Pearl Chukwuma, known as Qing Madi, for the song “Vision.”
In vocal performance, Liya was awarded Best Female Vocal for “I’m Done,” and Lojay won Best Male Vocal for “Billions.”
Davido emerged as the Best Digital Artiste of the Year, adding to his growing list of career achievements.
The Headies Viewers’ Choice award was given to Chike and the late Mohbad for “Egwu,” a song that touched many fans across the continent.
The ceremony also honored those making a difference beyond music.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Alex Okosi, and Amaju Pinnick were recognized with Special Recognition Awards, while Temitola Adekunle Johnson and Michelle Mukoro, popularly known as King Mitchy, received Humanitarian Awards for their efforts in supporting their communities.
The East African music scene was also celebrated, with Tanzanian artist Juma Jux winning Best East African Artiste of the Year.
Other nominees included Bien from Kenya, Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania, Bruce Melodie from Rwanda, and Azawi from Uganda.
The night was filled with glitz, performances, and emotional moments as the winners thanked their fans and reflected on their journeys.
It was a night where talent, hard work, and creativity were put in the spotlight, leaving everyone looking forward to what the next year will bring in the African music scene.
