Security operatives raided the home of Yoruba Nation advocate, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, a few days ago. According to reports, about 100 soldiers stormed his Ibadan residence at around 1am. This resulted in a gun duel that lasted more than an hour. Two people were killed and some others injured.
This incident is linked with the planned āāYoruba Nationāā rally last Saturday, July 3. With the attack on his private residence, Igboho asked his supporters to halt the protest. Regardless of his call, people still stormed the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Lagos for the Yoruba Nation rally.
Sunday Igboho speaks on the incident
Speaking on the incident, Igboho states that the ammunition found in his home were planted by the Nigerian government. He tagged it, āāgovernment magicāā which he doesnāt use. Moreover, he admitted that what he uses in protecting himself is traditional magic.
The attack has not deterred him from speaking up against the dastardly acts of Fulani herdsmen in the South-West region. The incessant killing of innocent citizens is the main drive behind the secessionist seeking to form a Yoruba Nation.

The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Hakeem Odumosu, had said that the state would not tolerate a Yoruba Nation protest, so it doesn’t end on a negative note, as with the EndSARS protests. Consequently, Igboho said that the people who were killed at his house were taken away just like it was after the Lekki Toll gate shootings during the EndSARS protests.
Besides the ammunition that Igboho maintains was planted in his home, cash and valuables were also taken. Hence, Igboho is suing the Nigerian government for the sum of N500million for damages to his property.
Like Nnamdi Kanu, Like Sunday Igboho
The agitation for a sovereign nation of Biafra has been the call of Nnamdi Kanu. He believes that his people are being marginalized and should be allowed to form their nation. In the same manner, Sunday Igboho has influenced many individuals in the south-west to seek the formation of theirs.
With the many ills travailing the country, President Muhammadu Buhari has been criticized for siding the northerners who have a record of violence. The Boko-Haram sect continues to terrorize various areas in the North. Meanwhile, Fulani herdsmen have moved from just the north to other regions, killing and causing harm to farmers and their farmlands.
In recent times, bandits have made a lucrative business of kidnapping school children from various schools in the North. Ransoms are usually placed on the lives of their victims. Sadly, individuals like Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, the self-acclaimed spokesman of the bandits, still walks free.
With Nnamdi Kanu in custody and Sunday Igboho declared wanted, the citizens are left wondering who is next on the government’s list. While commenting on the agitations of the various secessionists, the General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, stated that Nigeria can remain united if the issues raised by the various regions are addressed.
Therefore, the onus lies on the government to take the necessary steps without employing harsh methods that are unjustified. It is more likely that a united nation will overcome its challenges than one that is divided. United we stand!
