Nigerian Footballers in Europe Weekly Performance Review

The Nigerian Premier Football League is yet to resume after it was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Football fans will find it interesting to see how Nigerian players in Europe fared this week.

As another round of fixtures were played last weekend, let’s take a look at the performance of Nigerian players.

Semi Ajayi

Semi Ajayi played the full 90 minutes in the 6 goal thriller between West Bromwich Albion and Chelsea on Saturday. West Brom were 3 goals up at half time but gave away their lead in the second half as Chelsea had equalized by full time.

Manager, Slaven Bilic commended the efforts and performance levels of Ajayi and his teammates after the game. He expressed his satisfaction with their performance.

Eberechi Eze

Eze made his first start of the season for Crystal Palace against Everton on Saturday.

He put in a decent performance in the 75 minutes he spent on the pitch in their 1-2 defeat to Everton. His manager and teammates however had only praises for him after the game.

Alex Iwobi

Iwobi made another substitute appearance for Everton as he came on for James Rodrigues against Crystal Palace.

He only spent 4 minutes of normal time, which was not enough for him to make an impression.

Kelechi Iheanacho

Iheanacho has struggled to get time on the pitch this season and he only got 5 minutes of action against Man City on Sunday.

He came on for Jamie Vardy. His compatriot, Wilfred Ndidi didn’t play at all because he didn’t make the matchday squad.

Samuel Chukwueze

Nigerian winger, Samuel Chukwueze was handed another start against Barcelona on Sunday. This is following back to back ecstatic performances in his first two games of the season.

However, his efforts weren’t enough to save Villareal from suffering an embarrassing defeat at the Nou Camp. The Catalans hit 4 past the Yellow Submarines with no reply.

He spent most of his time tracking back to help out the defence before coming off at the 74th minute for Takefusa Kubo.
