Threads appear to be introducing this location tagging update enabling users to add a location to the thread. A few users have claimed that they noticed a shift within Threadsā app, even if the update doesnāt appear universal.
It works like location tagging Using this feature is like tagging a location on Instagram. When you allow Threads to access your location, you will find the list of places that can be tagged, but you can also search for a place. For instance, I realized that some users have been ironically using the word āhellā to tag some of the posts.
A pop-up message from Meta inside the app says that they intend to use location sharing to improve Threads offering more ārelevant contentā related to the places around users. The change could potentially enhance Threadsā search mechanism, which still lags much of the time, and make the application just a tad more helpful for tracking real-time events such as breaking news.

The change could also prove useful in the future when Meta decides to open up advertising in Threads at some point. Zuckerberg himself has stated that the company intends to expand the service before introducing ads to the site, but getting permission to share locations would give the ad engine at the company a vital piece of information.
Meta did not answer questions about the feature yet; however, the company seems to still be deploying it. Location sharing showed up for me in Threads but then went away an hour or so later. That does not seem to be available for viewing at all as of the web version of Threads.
