Three consecutive victories; Super Falcons are primed for the World Cup


On Tuesday, 11th of April, the Super Falcons won the friendly against New Zealand in Antalya, Turkey.

This is their third consecutive victory.

The super falcon are bristling with confidence and seem ready to take on any team in the World cup. After beating Haiti 2-1 in the Pre-World Cup tourney less than a week ago, the Super Falcons are in top shape. It is evident from their latest win of 3-0 against new Zealand, the co-host of the World Cup.

Coach Randy Waldrum was caught on camera grinning from ear to ear at the playoffs between the Falcons and New Zealand. In his his previous at the game against Haiti, he said “I was really proud of the way we played…’  The team seem to be  bristling with  confidence and potential under his tutelage.

The world cup scheduled to hold from June 20- August 20 holds  a lot of promise for the 9 times champion with the energy, zest and skills they have displayed in the last three games.

The Last Two Games

The same 11 man team that beat Haiti 2-1, is the same team that beat new Zealand 3-0. All members of the team seem to be in great shape and form and it is manifested in  the way they played. In both games every player contributed her own quota and the games were exhilarating for those that viewed it.

Victory Over Haiti

The game started with both teams doing their best to get the leading score. Asisat Oshoala had a close shot at getting the advantage 22 minutes into the game but the goal was ruled  for offside. Undeterred, the team members intensified their efforts, 4 minutes later, Rasheedat Ajibade also had a near shot too.

Just five minutes before the break and 40 minutes into the game, the Super Falcons had a winning shot through  Esther Okoronkwo  left footed free kick. Asisat Oshoala scored the second  goal in the 58th minute of the game.  A shot that marks her return to the team since July 2022. Although Haiti was able to score a goal in the last 15 minutes , the super falcons were victorious at the end of the game.

New Zealand latest defeat

 The game started with a lot of anticipation and both teams seemed well matched. Rasheedat Ajibade  had almost scored the lead goal during the first 21 minutes.  The Super Falcons broke the deadlock with the team captain ,Onome Ebi giving the Falcons the lead goal 33 minutes into the game.

50 minutes into the game Jennifer Echegini skillfully manipulated a pinpoint cross from Demehin into a goal making it 2-0. Just before  the end of the game Oparanozie Desire, also back on the team scored the last goal that gave the Falcons total victory in the game. With this momentum, the super falcons are headed for bigger wins in the 2023 world cup.
