Tinubu approves posting of 65 ambassadors

President Bola Tinubu approved the posting of 65 ambassadors to Nigeria’s foreign missions and the United Nations, the Presidency announced on Friday.

The list comprised 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors, whose nominations the Senate confirmed in December 2025.

In a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said the postings assigned several prominent figures to strategic diplomatic missions across the world.

Among the non-career envoys, Aminu Dalhatu was posted to the United Kingdom, Lateef Kayode Are to the United States, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau to China, while Senator Jimoh Ibrahim was appointed Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Other notable postings included Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany, Ita Enang to South Africa, Mahmud Yakubu to Qatar, Reno Omokri to Mexico, Isaac Folorunso Adewole to Canada, and Olufemi Pedro to Australia.

Additional non-career ambassadors included Grace Bent (Togo), Victor Ikpeazu (Spain), Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu (Israel), Paul Oga Adikwu (Vatican City), Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Philippines), Angela Adebayo (Portugal), Oluwayimika Ayotunwa (Japan), Ifenayi Ugwuanyi (Greece), Chioma Ohakim (Poland), Tasiu Maigari (Gambia), Muhammed Aliyu (Argentina), Joseph Sola Iji (Russia), Fatima Florence Ajimobi (Austria), Lola Akande (Sweden), Ayodele Oke (France), Yakubu Gambo (Saudi Arabia), Nora Daduut (South Korea), Joe Okocha (Ireland), Kulu Abubakar (Tunisia), and Jerry Manwe (Trinidad and Tobago).The career ambassadors were posted to various countries, including Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, São Tomé and Príncipe, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Jamaica, Zambia, Mali, Equatorial Guinea, Lebanon, Italy, Mozambique, Democratic Republic of the Congo, India, Senegal, Ghana, Ethiopia, Chad, Netherlands, Morocco, Malaysia, Tanzania, Botswana, Iran, Kenya, Benin, Belgium, Switzerland, Namibia, Gabon, Sierra Leone, Sudan and Thailand.

The Presidency stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had already secured agrément from the United Kingdom for Ambassador Dalhatu’s posting as High Commissioner, while France had also approved the appointment of Ambassador Ayo Oke.

It added that the ministry had forwarded the nominations of the remaining 62 envoys to their respective host countries and requested agrément in accordance with diplomatic procedures.

Tinubu also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Nigeria) to immediately commence an induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners ahead of their deployment to their respective missions.
