President Bola Tinubu has described the commissioning of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex (BATTIC) as a fulfillment of his administration’s commitment to introducing impactful changes in Nigeria’s governance and development.

Speaking during the event held in Abuja on Tuesday, President Tinubu highlighted the significance of the complex, which was built by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and named in his honour.

He noted that the project would strengthen Nigeria’s security infrastructure, improve the ease of doing business, and enhance investor confidence.

“The integration of security—whether air, land, or sea—embarked upon by the NIS is a fulfillment of a dream. From the outset of our administration, we promised to deliver innovative and excellent solutions across government services, and this complex is proof of that commitment,” Tinubu said.

The state-of-the-art complex boasts seven key components: a Data Centre, Command and Control Centre, Visa Approval Centre, ECOWAS Card Centre, Solar Farm, and Passport Centre.

Tinubu emphasised the importance of embracing technology and innovation to propel Nigeria forward, particularly as the nation leads the African continent with a population exceeding N200 million.

“We believe that by reforming the Immigration Service, as has been done, we can unlock tremendous economic opportunities, ease of entry and exit, and overall growth for our nation,” the President remarked.

Tinubu also lauded the Ministry of Interior for its strides in transforming the Nigerian passport issuance process and praised the collaboration among government agencies that brought the project to fruition.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, commended President Tinubu for his visionary leadership and support, which ensured the project’s completion within a year.

He noted that the complex would save the government substantial costs by centralizing data archiving and processing across various agencies.

“With this facility, visa application approvals will now be completed within 48 hours,” the Minister assured.

Similarly, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, described the complex as a landmark achievement for Africa.

She praised Tinubu’s leadership for realizing a project that had been in the pipeline for 18 years.

“This complex is a testament to the possibilities that arise when vision and determination meet,” Nandap said.
