Tinubu commissions bridge, digital land registry in Lagos

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday declared that Lagos has set a new benchmark for project delivery in Nigeria at a high-profile commissioning ceremony.

Tinubu who’s in Lagos for a visit was represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio—who inaugurated three major projects: the long-awaited Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, the state-of-the-art Lagos State Geographic Information Service (LAGIS) Building, and a sprawling Multi-Agency Administrative Complex.

The highlight of the day was the 5.04-kilometre Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge. The project carries personal significance for Tinubu, as it was first envisioned during his tenure as governor in 2002.

Decades later, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has turned that vision into reality.

“The Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge is more than infrastructure; it is a bridge to opportunity,” the President said.

He emphasised that in a megacity like Lagos, smooth traffic flow is vital to the economy.

Sanwo-Olu noted that the bridge caters to more than just vehicles.

It features dedicated bicycle lanes, pedestrian walkways, and solar-powered lighting.

Importantly, the project incorporates a modern stormwater management system aimed at ending the persistent flooding along the Odo-Iya-Alaro corridor.

Tinubu also commissioned two key administrative landmarks in Alausa: The LAGIS Building: This five-storey facility houses Lagos’ new digital land registry.

The President described it as the end of “paper-based bottlenecks,” emphasising that technology is essential for transparent land management.

The Multi-Agency Administrative Complex: Renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex (BATAC), this 7,362-square-metre facility unites several government agencies under one roof, streamlining coordination and speeding up public services.

Sanwo-Olu said naming the complex after the President recognised Tinubu’s foundational role in shaping modern Lagos’ institutions.

The ceremony, attended by APC Chairman Hope Uzodinma, legislators, and traditional leaders, showcased Lagos’ strides in tackling urban congestion.

Tinubu encouraged other state governors to replicate the “Lagos Model” of development, which prioritises citizens’ wellbeing through high-tech, high-quality infrastructure.

“These achievements are not the work of one man alone; they demonstrate a system that works,” he concluded, linking the day’s milestones to his national Renewed Hope vision for a digitally enabled and economically resilient Nigeria.
