Tinubu congratulates Dangote on World Bank appointment

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, on his appointment to the World Bank’s Private Sector Investment Lab—a body dedicated to promoting investment and job creation in emerging economies.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the appointment as well-deserved.

He cited Dangote’s extensive experience in the private sector, his strategic investments, and the significant employment opportunities he has generated through his conglomerate.

The Dangote Group has grown to become one of Africa’s foremost conglomerates, driven by innovation and sustained investment.

Its diverse business interests span cement, fertiliser, salt, sugar, oil, and gas.

However, the $20 billion Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals project stands out as Africa’s most ambitious private sector initiative and the continent’s largest single private investment.

President Tinubu urged Dangote to bring his transformative ideas and bold initiatives to bear in his new role at the World Bank, with a view to significantly impacting emerging markets across the globe.

The World Bank announced Dangote’s appointment on Wednesday as part of a wider expansion of its Private Sector Investment Lab.

The lab has now entered a new phase focused on scaling up solutions to attract private capital and create employment opportunities in developing countries.

Other members of the expanded lab include Bill Anderson, CEO of Bayer AG; Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chair of Bharti Enterprises; and Mark Hoplamazian, President and CEO of Hyatt Hotels Corporation.

The World Bank noted that the expanded membership brings together business leaders with proven records of job creation in developing economies, aligning with the Bank’s renewed emphasis on employment as a key pillar of global development.
