President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian football administrator Samson Adamu on his appointment as Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The President described the development as a proud moment for Nigeria and the West African subregion.
CAF announced Adamu’s appointment on Saturday, March 29, 2026, following the departure of Veron Mosengo‑Omba. Adamu, who previously served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events, assumed the role in an acting capacity.
This appointment marks the first time a Nigerian has held the top administrative role at CAF since its establishment in 1957.
Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, issued a statement in which the President praised Adamu’s professionalism and dedication. He said,
“His excellence, professionalism, and dedication- particularly in organising and delivering major CAF competitions – have elevated the standard of football events across the continent.”
