President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Tunde Onakoya for setting a new world chess record and showcasing Nigeria’s resilience, self-belief, and ingenuity on the global stage.
This information was conveyed in a statement issued to the media by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President.
Mr. Onakoya achieved the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon on Saturday, playing for over 58 hours and winning every match.
President Tinubu praised the Nigerian Chess Champion and founder of Chess in Slums Africa for his remarkable achievement, emphasizing the noble cause driving his inspiring display of character: raising funds for African children to learn and find opportunities through chess.

The President highlighted Onakoya’s embodiment of the audacity to effect positive change, challenge impossibilities, and innovate solutions to the nationās challenges, even in the face of adversity.
He acknowledged Nigeria’s youth population for their remarkable contributions across various fields, including Afrobeats, Nollywood, skit-making, education, science, and technology, demonstrating that great achievements can indeed originate from humble beginnings.
President Tinubu also commended Nigerians’ unity, exemplified by their unwavering support for this historic endeavor, transcending artificial divisions.
He reassured citizens of his administration’s steadfast commitment to creating and expanding opportunities for youth to harness their talents and become the vanguards of greatness that our nation aspires to in the future.
