President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned West Africa Gas Limited’s new 40,000 CBM LPG vessel, strengthening Nigeria’s clean energy supply chain across Africa.
The commissioning was performed on behalf of Tinubu by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, in Lagos. The vessel, named MT Iyaloja Lagos, is owned by West Africa Gas Limited (WAGL), a joint venture between Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) and Sahara Group.
Mr. Temitope Shonubi, Chairman of WAGL Energy and Executive Director at Sahara Group, said the launch demonstrates WAGL’s commitment to bridging Africa’s energy infrastructure gap. He added that energy security depends on continued investment in shipping and distribution assets.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company emphasised that WAGL has delivered over six million metric tonnes of LPG across West Africa in the last five years.
“NNPC Ltd. is proud to be a major shareholder in WAGL, an indigenous company committed to delivering energy solutions across Africa,” said Ojulari, underscoring the role of local capacity in driving regional energy transition.
