President Bola Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive review of the military’s security strategies and the use of sophisticated equipment to eradicate terrorist groups nationwide.
This directive follows a tragic attack in Borno State, prompting a strong response from the Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Shettima conveyed his deepest sympathies to the people and government of Borno State after a recent terrorist assault in the Darajamal community of Bama Local Government Area resulted in numerous casualties.
According to a statement from his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima confirmed Tinubu’s instructions for the Armed Forces to reassess their operations, including the deployment of cutting-edge military hardware and surveillance technology, to eliminate terrorist threats across the country.
The attack, carried out by Boko Haram insurgents on Friday night, led Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum to visit Darajamal on Saturday to offer condolences to the families of the victims, who included both civilians and soldiers.

In his condolence message, Shettima called the incident a significant loss for both the state and the nation.
“I offer my sincere condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military for the tragic loss of our fellow citizens,” he stated.
“These deaths have left the entire nation grieving, but we are confident that the victims’ families will see justice served.”
He expressed his belief in the Armed Forces’ ability to overcome the state’s security challenges, noting that Tinubu has authorised the acquisition of more drones and instructed all security agencies to enhance their operational strategies.
Shettima also mentioned the Federal Government’s consideration of establishing state police, emphasising Tinubu’s view that some security issues necessitate specialised units with a deep understanding of local areas and cultures to operate effectively at a community level.
He offered prayers for the grieving families and assured the state government and the affected communities of the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to combating insecurity.
