Tinubu pledges justice for Plateau, Kaduna victims, orders immediate rescue of abductees

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the recent “barbaric and cowardly” attacks by gunmen in Plateau and Kaduna States, pledging that those responsible will face justice.

In a statement on Tuesday, the President addressed separate assaults in Jos’s Angwan Rukuba district, Plateau State, and Kahir village in Kaduna State’s Kagarko Local Government Area.

The attack in Kahir, which saw wedding guests killed and abducted, was described as a direct affront to Nigeria’s national values.

Tinubu did not hold back in describing the attackers, calling those who strike at defenceless citizens under the cover of night “heartless cowards.”

He warned that targeting soft targets in Jos is a deliberate attempt to provoke a cycle of reprisal attacks and further bloodshed.

“Their objective is not only to inflict harm but also to trigger a spiral of retaliatory violence,” the President said, urging citizens not to be drawn into vengeance.

The President instructed the nation’s security forces to take immediate action by acting on early-warning intelligence rather than responding only after attacks occur.

He ordered authorities to secure the safe release of all remaining abductees from Kahir village.

Tinubu said the government is acquiring advanced equipment to help security forces track and dismantle criminal networks in real time.

Tinubu also addressed the role of information, directing security agencies to pursue those spreading inflammatory rumours.

He warned media outlets against framing the attacks as religiously motivated, stressing that such narratives endanger lives and inflame tensions.

The President praised Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna for their swift containment and rescue efforts, which have already secured the safe return of two victims in Kaduna.

Condolences were extended to the families of those killed, and prayers were offered for the injured.

Tinubu stressed the importance of public cooperation, urging communities to follow official guidance on evacuations and relocations to protect lives and property.
