President Bola Tinubu has made significant changes to his cabinet, dismissing five ministers and nominating seven new candidates for Senate confirmation on Wednesday.
Additionally, Tinubu reassigned ten ministers to new portfolios, signalling a shift in his administration’s strategy.
In August 2023, shortly after his inauguration, the President appointed 48 ministers, all of whom were screened and confirmed by the Senate. Notably, Betta Edu was suspended in January, and Simon Lalong moved to the Senate.
Speculation about a cabinet reshuffle had been rife, especially after presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga indicated in September that a reorganisation was forthcoming, although he did not specify a timeline.

During the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, the President announced the dismissal of the following ministers: Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Tourism), Tahir Mamman (Education), Abdullahi Gwarzo (State for Housing and Urban Development), and Jamila Ibrahim (Youth Development).
Tinubu also nominated Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Nentawe Yilwatda as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, effectively concluding the tenure of suspended Minister Betta Edu.
Further appointments include Maigari Dingyadi as the Minister of Labour and Employment, Jumoke Oduwole as the Minister of Industry, Idi Maiha as the Minister for the newly established Livestock Development Ministry, Yusuf Ata as the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, and Suwaiba Ahmad as the Minister of State for Education.
