Tinubu seeks Senate confirmation for three new ambassadors

President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the names of three non-career ambassadorial nominees to the senate for confirmation.

The request was contained in a letter to the upper legislative chamber and was read during Wednesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Tinubu noted that the nominations were made in line with section 171 (1), (2)(c) and (4) of the 1999 constitution (as amended).

The nominees include Kayode Are from Ogun State, Aminu Dalhatu from Jigawa State, and Ayodele Oke from Oyo State.

Tinubu urged the senate to “consider and confirm the appointments expeditiously”.

Akpabio subsequently referred the letter to the senate committee on foreign affairs, which has been mandated to conclude its work and report back within a week.

If confirmed, the nominees will take up roles in key Nigerian missions abroad. The appointments come almost two years after Tinubu recalled all ambassadors — both career and non-career — in September 2023.
